Garrison Keillor was born Gary Edward
Keillor on August 7, 1942.
He is best known as the creator and host of the American Public Media show A Prairie Home Companion (also carried on the BBC). Keillor's most recognizable theme is the News from Lake Wobegone, a monologue about a fictional town "where all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average." The monologue is said to be written by "Sara Bellum," representing his own cerebellum.
Most broadcasts of A Prairie Home Companion originate from the Fitzgerald Theater on Exchange Street in downtown St. Paul.
Keillor has also written many articles magazines like The New Yorker and Atlantic Monthly. He also hosts The Writer's Almanac, a program broadcast daily on some public radio stations. A movie based upon A Prairie Home Companion is in production.
Mr. Keillor's works have been gathered
into two printed collections, Happy to Be Here and We are Still
Married.
